# HelloWorld (OP-01)

## Request and response

`HelloWorld` takes no parameters.

| Part | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `<return>` | `String` | The constant literal `"Hello World"`. No other value is ever returned. |

## WebMethod attributes

`<WebMethod()>` — bare, no arguments supplied.

## Steps

1. Return the constant string `"Hello World"`.

There is no access check, no branch and no directory interaction anywhere in this operation.

## Process flow

```
## Shared state effects
None — this operation touches no process-wide state and no instance field.
## Error handling
This operation cannot fail: it contains no conditional logic, no directory call and no `Try`/`Catch`. No caller-visible fault is possible. See [Faults](../faults.md) for the service-wide fault model.
## Authorization
None in code. This is one of the eleven ungated operations — see [Authentication and authorization](../authentication-authorization.md).
This is Visual Studio ASMX project scaffolding left in place on the published, live contract (tech debt TD-16) — see [Tech debt](../tech-debt.md).
